The U.S. Women’s National Team has been working hard to get ready to defend their title as the Algarve Cup Champions at the 2009 Women’s Algarve Cup on March 4th – 11th in southern Portugal. The tournament has been held every year in the Algarve region of Portugal since 1994 and is one of the most prominent women’s soccer tournaments.
The other teams that have been invited to the tournament are: Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Finland, China, Portugal, Poland, Austria and Wales.
The USA, which has won 6 Algarve Cup titles so far, and is the two-time defending champion, is in group B. For their first match, they will be facing Denmark on March 4th at Municipal Stadium in Lagos, starting at 7am EST. Next they play Iceland on March 6th in Ferreiras at 10am EST, and then Norway on March 9th in Albufeira at 11am EST. All final matches will be played on March 11th, with the championship match at Estadio Algarve in Faro.
