2009 MLS Rookie of the Year

Omar Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Galaxy was named the Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year.

After having a very successful youth soccer career, Gonzalez a 21-year-old defender, was a first-round pick from the University of Maryland and helped the Los Angeles Galaxy cut the number of goals allowed in half. Gonzalez started all 30 matches for the Galaxy defense that went from worst in MLS to one of the best in the league.
