Did you know that the first country to win the World Cup was Uruguay? In 1930, the first ever World Cup was held in Uruguay. In front of 90,000+ fans, Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2.

QUICK FACT: First World Cup Goal

Did you know that the first World Cup goal was scored by Lucien Laurent of France? In 1930, the first ever World Cup was held in Uruguay and the first two games were held simultaneously. France beat Mexico 4-1 and USA beat Belgium 3-0.

2009 Algarve Cup

The U.S. Women’s National Team has been working hard to get ready to defend their title as the Algarve Cup Champions at the 2009 Women’s Algarve Cup on March 4th – 11th in southern Portugal. The tournament has been held every year in the Algarve region of Portugal since 1994 and is one of the most prominent women’s soccer tournaments. Continue reading
