Henderson, Hurtado and O’Brien are all in their first year of eligibility. Dooley, Doyle, Kinnear and Sorber are in their final year and, if not elected, will moved into the veterans category.
The selection committee consists of all present and former coaches of the Men’s and Women’s National Team; all active MLS coaches with a minimum of 4 years as Head Coach; MLS management representatives; MLS Commissioner; US Soccer Secretary General; designated members of the media; and all Hall of Famers. Voters can choose up to 10 players, but only those who are included on two-thirds or 66.7 percent of the ballots will be inducted.

This will let you know how players are eligible for the veterans’ category:
http://national.soccerhall.org/Induction/electionprocess/election_process_veteran.htmI’m not totally sure why they limit it, but its probably because you don’t want the same players on the ballot over and over again. If they aren’t gonna get voted… then just remove them!

Can anyone explain the Veterans’ category? Why do they even have a limit on how many years you can get voted in?
