What is a designated player in MLS?

A designated player in Major League Soccer (MLS) is a star international player that is an exception to the salary cap rule. David Beckham is the first and most well known designated player in the MLS. 2008 Player Of The Year Award

The 2008 Professional Footballer’s Association Player of the Year was awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo who plays for Manchester United. This is the second year in a row that Ronaldo has won the award. The only other player to win back to back awards was Thierry Henry of Arsenal from 2003-2004. Cristiano also won the 2008 Fan’s Player of the Year award, which is also the second year in a row that Ronaldo has won that award.

2008 Olympic Finals

The 2008 Olympic Finals is nearly here! On the Men’s side, Argentina will face Nigeria. Argentina beat Brazil 3-0 in the Semi-finals. Nigeria beat Belgium 4-1 in the Semi-finals. On the Women’s side, USA will face Brazil. USA beat Japan 4-2 in the Semi-finals. Brazil beat Germany 4-1 in the Semi-finals. The Women’s final will be played on August 21st.
