USA was coming into this game with a simple goal: to win. In order to make it to the next round, USA needed to beat Algeria plain and simple. Yes the chance that England and Slovenia would end in a tie would be in favor for the United States. For some reason, the United States love to make things hard for themselves in tournament play. The first half of their second game against Slovenia was horrible. By halftime, they were down by two goals. However, they also never give up whatever the situation. Continue reading

USA probably didn’t plan to be one goal down within 5 minutes of the first half. Steven Gerrard found himself unmarked and found the back of the net giving England a quick lead in the game. I think USA woke up after that in terms of defense. However, offensively there was not much being generated. Thankfully, England’s goalkeeper, Robert Green, helped change that. Continue reading

Yesterday was a big soccer day for Sideline Soccer! We went to a triple header at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. After some great food and drinks from our tailgate party (thanks Charley!), we headed in for the first match between New England Revolution and Kansas City Wizards. Not much to report from that game except that it was a 0-0 tie with not much action at all. Continue reading
It was the first time the USA Men’s National Team has ever made it to a FIFA tournament final. From the start of the tournament, no one thought they’d ever make it this far. They lost 3-1 against Italy in the first game and 3-0 against Brazil in the second game. Continue reading
