Starting next month, The New England Revolution will be looking to defend their SuperLiga title in the SuperLiga 2009 tournament. It will begin on Saturday June 20th, with playoffs on Wednesday July 15th and Finals on Wednesday, August 5th.
The Major League Soccer and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) have announced the qualifying teams. Along with the Revolution, teams from the MLS will be Chicago Fire, Chivas USA and Kansas City Wizards. They are the top four teams based on the 2008 season record, who are not already competing in the 2009 CONCACAF Champions League.
For the FMF clubs, qualification was based on their record in the 2008 Clausura and 2008 Apertura season, except those teams that qualified for the 2009 CONCACAF Champions League. Those teams are: San Luis, Santos Laguna, Tigres UNAL, and Atlas.
Tickets are already on sale and can be bought on www.Ticketmaster.com. The entire SuperLiga 2009 tournament will be broadcast live in the U.S. on TeleFutura in Spanish. English-language broadcasts will be available live on SuperLiga2009.com.
