USA advance to Confederations Cup Final!

Fifteen games straight without a loss. Ranked number one in the world. Nope we’re not talking about the USA. We’re talking about Spain. But guess what? USA just beat them 2-0 and advance to the Confederation Cup Final to face either Brazil or South Africa.
We all thought the same thing. There’s no way USA will beat Spain. They were lucky to make it this far, there’s no chance they’ll make it to the final. I was skeptical myself, but somewhere deep down there was hope. I guess the players on the USA squad felt the same way.
USA played their hearts out. Players were sacrificing everything to block shots in front of Tim Howard, who also had a great game keeping Spain from scoring. Jose Altidore was a bit lucky with the first goal, but hey we’ll take whatever we can get! He showed strength in shielding the ball, making a great turn, and taking a shot. He still needs to work on his first touch though.
Landon Donovan played a great game. He was all over the field, playing both offense and defense. If the USA had more players with better vision of the game, Landon’s runs to open space would have been awarded more often than not. Clint Dempsey came through again scoring the goal that sealed Spain’s fate. He has great skill and confidence with the ball, but he needs to get involved in plays more.
Yet again, the USA received a red card. Michael Bradley got a direct red for a slide tackle. Only seeing one replay, it looked like a hard tackle and his cleat was up a bit but I didn’t think it deserved a direct red card. Having seen so many red cards given to the USA, it makes you wonder whether it’s the players or the referees who are not being smart.
Brazil is up against South Africa tomorrow. I’m sure Brazil is favored, but who knows what will happen. Look at how far USA has come! Could it be USA vs South Africa in the final? Only time will tell!

Altidore was very lucky that first goal landed in the net. When he turned and was 1 on 1 with the goalie, the ball should never have been put anywhere near the goalie. Sheer luck, but as you said, we’ll take it. Good finish USA, lets take the cup!
