2010 World Cup: USA vs Slovenia Review

For some reason, the United States love to make things hard for themselves in tournament play. The first half of their second game against Slovenia was horrible. By halftime, they were down by two goals. However, they also never give up whatever the situation.
It all started with Landon Donovan’s blast into the top of the net after a defensive mistake by Slovenia. Then Michael Bradley, the son of the United States head coach Bob Bradley, tied the game up. And then, what will probably be one of the most talked about plays for the 2010 World Cup, Maurice Edu scores a goal only to have it called back due to a foul. But what foul?!
Commentators, spectators, anyone who has watched the replays have no idea why the referee blew the whistle. And to make matters worse, the referee does not have to discuss it. That’s FIFA’s ruling that referees do not have to explain themselves. Wonderful. Maybe FIFA needs to explain the rules of the game to the referee again.
USA were down by two goals but they showed great pride and resilience to score two goals in the 2nd half and come away with a point. A win would have put them in a better position, but now it’s going to get tricky.
USA need to beat Algeria in the next game in order to advance to the next round of the World Cup. A tie has the potential to do the same but only if England and Slovenia end in a tie and England don’t score more than 2 goals. So to be safe, beat Algeria!
