USA World Cup Qualifier

The first FIFA World Cup qualifier this year for the United States National Team is coming up on February 11th in Columbus, Ohio. Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM ET and will be shown live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and Univision.

This game is the third consecutive time that the Columbus Crew Stadium is hosting the final round home game between the United States and Mexico.  And it marks the 55th meeting between the USA and Mexico. The USA has dominated lately, with an 8-0-2 home record against Mexico since 2000. During that time, the USA has netted 17 goals, while Mexico has scored only three on US turf in this decade.

The match in Columbus is the first of five home qualifiers for the USA this year. With all the publicity behind it, when tickets went on sale to the general public, they were sold out within 90 minutes! The USA, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and Trinidad & Tobago, are all competing in the World Cup Qualifier 10-game round-robin format that will go through October. The top three teams will automatically advance to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
