You can’t play soccer without a ball right?! And yes, size does matter when it comes to choosing one. But which size do you choose? The proper size will depend on the age group, but be sure to check with your league for size requirements as it may differ.

Here are the most common sizes for soccer balls and their related age groups:
Size 3
Used for children under the age of 8. These balls are generally 23-24 inches in circumference and weigh between 11-12 ounces.
Size 4
Used for players between the ages of 8-12. These balls have a circumference of 25-26 inches and weigh between 12-13 ounces.
Size 5
This is the international standard size for all ages 13 and older. These balls have a circumference of 27-28 inches and weigh between 14-16 ounces.

And there’s also size 1 or sometimes called a mini-ball, which is great to practice juggling! And is also used for other training.
And if you can find them, there are size 2 balls that are also used for training.

I carry a size 1 ball with me to games. They can actually be used very effectively for helping footwork, shooting, ball control, etc. If you use one for a few minutes before a game, when you start the game the ball will actually look rather large which could even help you aim.
