Who has more talent?

I came across the following quote from a book I’ve been reading recently: “It takes more talent to score than to stop other people from scoring”. In terms of money, forwards do tend to make more money than defenders. But is it true that those who do the scoring are more talented than those who try and stop the scoring? What are your thoughts?

I think it depends on the level of play. If you are playing pickup soccer or even low level coed/open/men’s/women’s leagues, I think its easier to score. On the other hand, when you get into premier levels of soccer (a la BPL etc), I think the teams work much better together as defenders and have much stronger goaltending. If you were to do the math of average number of goals scored in these games, I think the number would be much lower the higher the skill level is.

Would it be correct in stating that goal scorers do have more talent since it’s needed in order to score in such difficult leagues?

I agree with the comment that it takes more talent to score than to stop other people from scoring. Many offensive players can also play defense very well, but its not always true the other way around.

Yes, I would agree with that statement.
