Did you know that William McCrum was the inventor of the penalty shot? Being a member of the Irish Football Association, he proposed the idea of a penalty shot in order to stop defenders professionally fouling attacking players in order to stop a goal. The idea was submitted in June 1890 and approved in June 1891.
