RoboCupTM is an international joint project to promote AI, robotics, and related fields. It is an attempt to foster artificial intelligence and robotics research by providing a standard problem where a wide range of technologies can be integrated and examined.
The ultimate goal of the RoboCup project is:
By the year 2050, develop a team of fully autonomous humanoid robots that can play and win against the human world champion soccer team.

The 2009 competition is being held in Graz, Austria from June 29 to July 5.
Many professional players drop to the ground with the slightest touch from being pressured. Now imagine a full size robot made of metal defending you? I fear limbs will be cut off!
What do you think? Do you think it’s possible to have a full soccer team comprised of robots by 2050? Please leave your comments below!
